How to Select your Classes
The summer program in Costa Rica is taught in modules. Classes are taught in 2 week blocks and course selection and sequence works in the following way:
Summer I: 2 weeks
- Choose one class
Summer 2: 4 weeks
- First 2 weeks: Choose one class or internship
- Second 2 weeks: Choose one class or internship
Summer 3: 4 weeks
- First 2 weeks: Choose one class or internship
- Second 2 weeks: Choose one class or internship
Summer 4: 2 weeks
- Choose one class
This schedule works very well for those students progressing through Spanish levels as classes move through sequence.
For example, a student could do:
Summer 1: 2 weeks
- Intermediate Spanish II
Summer 2: 4 weeks
- Advanced Spanish I
- Latin American Civilization & Culture
Summer 3: 4 weeks
- Advanced Spanish II
- Internship
Summer 4: 2 weeks
- Spanish Phonetics & Phonology
The Animal Studies Internship program takes place at the Toucan Rescue Ranch. In this program 45 hours of internship are completed every 2 weeks so that after 6 weeks 135 hours are completed which equates to 9 semester credits.
