Medical Insurance

Comprehensive international medical insurance is available to all students enrolled in an Arcos Learning Abroad program. Coverage is provided through International Student Insurance (ISI). The policy is managed and underwritten by Cigna Global and covers qualified medical expenses during the official program dates. Students are enrolled in the insurance plan two weeks prior to their program start date.

The policy includes:

Insurance Plan Benefits

The Cigna Global policy covers students for unexpected injuries and illness that may occur while studying or traveling outside their country of residence during the dates of the program. These are the insurance limits available through Arcos. Should you need additional limits (ex. to meet a Student Visa requirement) this may be possible at an additional cost.

Using Your Own Medical Insurance Policy

Often students already have very comprehensive international medical insurance through their primary provider or through their home university. It is not uncommon that the home university requires their students to use their international medical insurance plan. To verify your coverage, first call your insurance provider and ask if you are covered internationally and in what capacity. Provide your insurance company the exact dates of the program in which you are enrolled. If international coverage is provided, get the details from your insurance provider in the event you need to go to the doctor while abroad. Once you have this information, then also ask your study abroad office what their policies are for international medical insurance while abroad.

Additional Days of Insurance Coverage

If you plan to extend your time abroad outside of your official Arcos Learning Abroad program dates, and would like international medical insurance coverage for those additional days, please contact us. We can extend your policy dates at an additional cost per day. This amount will be added to your program invoice.
