Oaxaca is the perfect place to study, explore, and immerse yourself in the unique and beautiful culture of Mexico. Classes in Oaxaca are taught at the University of Oaxaca (UABJO), which was established in 1827 and is one of the first universities in Mexico. Spanish Language and Elective classes are taught at the Facultad de Idiomas, the prestigious language department of the university. The Spanish program began at UABJO in 1987 and has since evolved into an esteemed Spanish language institution. University facilities are located in the historic center of Oaxaca and are only a few blocks south of the famous Zócalo, or central plaza.
Accreditation: The University of Oaxaca (Universidad Autónoma "Benito Juárez" de Oaxaca), UABJO, is a fully accredited university by the government of Mexico.

History & Size: The University of Oaxaca was founded in 1827. The Language Department, where you will take classes, has roughly 1,000 students.
Class Information: Class size is from around 3 to 5 students per teacher. Classes are with other international students. Language classes and electives are typically held from 9 AM to 1 PM. There is always a break between classes. After class students can take advantage of our intercambios, language exchange programs with local Mexican university students.
Facilities: The Language Department has a relaxed atmosphere, and its modern facilities include a spacious library, computer lab, and comfortable classroom space.
Teaching Style: You will find that the teaching style in other countries m different than what you may be used to. If you have any concerns or questions about this when you are in Oaxaca, please ask your director! Your directors are available for any assistance you may need concerning the academic component of the program.

Mesoamericana University
The Mesoamericana University is located in the very heart of Oaxaca City's historic district. It is only blocks away from the University of Oaxaca making it very convenient to take classes from both universities. This private university focuses on study, research, critical thinking and human interaction. It is the ideal location for interacting with local students.
Accreditation: The Mesoamericana University (Universidad Mesoamericana), or La Meso, is a fully accredited university by the government of Mexico.

History: La Meso is a private university with branches in Oaxaca, San Luis and San Juan.
Class Information: Classes are with local Mexican students and it is recommended that this program be combined with classes at the University of Oaxaca. Classes are available in the areas of Business Administration, Tourism, Communication, Public Accounting, Law, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Psychology and Higher Education
